Cairns Convention Centre

Cairns, Queensland

Council’s new Cairns Performing Arts Centre replaced a 1970’s 600-person Civic Theatre. Constraints of the old theatre meant that Cairns was being by-passed by many larger scale performances. The new centre contains two theatres with 950 and 450 seating capacity. To complement this Council decided to incorporate an outdoor performance space into the park across the road for an audience capacity of to 2,000 to 3,500. This $90 million urban renewal and infrastructure created what Council has branded the Cairns Performing Arts Precinct – a cultural gateway to the city’s Central Business District.
